Do Affirmations Work?

The next morning, I shared the dream with Sandra as we sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast, and told her I wasn’t going to say anything to Evan because I wanted to see how long it would take for the insight he shared with us in my dream to surface in his waking consciousness.

Spiritual Experience

 Spiritual Beings

Yesterday (9/21/07), I was working in my online store. I spend a lot of time there adding new designs and making improvements and usually, I don’t look at how much money I’m making, if any. This morning I did look at the sales figure and saw that it stood at zero. This was significant because I do an affirmation every day to draw money into my account and I do what I can to promote my business. The question to me at that moment was, do affirmations work?

While repeating my business affirmation this morning: 100s and thousands of dollars in LifeSong sales are pouring into my account every day. Yippee!, I remembered the dream where Evan (my son) told Sandra (my wife) and I about a new insight he had. In the dream, Evan was a Forest Ranger in a park like Yosemite. Sandra and I drove up to visit him in the dream and as we walked through a meadow near the Ranger’s Station, Evan excitedly shared an insight with us. It was at a time he was still doing Speed (methamphetamine) in waking reality so this dream and his insight were important to me. Any sign of progress in fighting his dis-ease was important to me!

The next morning, I shared the dream with Sandra as we sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast, and told her I wasn’t going to say anything to Evan because I wanted to see how long it would take for the insight he shared with us in my dream to surface in his waking consciousness. Three days later his insight broke through into his waking consciousness and he was just as excited sharing it with us then as he was in the dream.

Another experience came to mind as I did my affirmations this morning. Again, it involved Evan while he was still taking drugs. This experience involved sending him healing energy while he lay sleeping in his bed. The day before, someone had brought Evan home unconscious. His friend helped me put his limp body in bed and, as I looked down at his pale, skinny frame, I thought I was looking at a dead person. This situation had been going on for so many years Sandra and I were heartsick. We also felt totally helpless to do anything about it, except endure.

The next day Evan was still recovering from his binge and stayed in his room. That night, after work, I decided to try something different. I remembered reading a Seth book by Jane Roberts where Seth said we had the ability to draw in the energy of an entire universe and send it out as healing energy. It was about eleven PM as I sat in my bedroom to meditate. I had just returned home from work and was still greatly disturbed by Evan’s condition from the night before. As I wondered what I could do to help him, Seth’s suggestion about sending someone the healing energy of an entire universe came to mind.

It wasn’t easy but I imagined myself drawing in the energy of an entire universe. As I drew the energy into me, I had to keep stretching myself around it, kind of like a snake unhinging its jaws and drawing in the body of an animal wider than its own body. Once I absorbed all the energy of my imagined universe, I focused on Evan lying in his bed in the next room and sent all the energy I had gathered, into him.

The next morning I told Sandra what I had done and, once again, I told her not to tell Evan because I wanted to see if he was affected by the experience. As our discussion came to an end, Evan came booming out of his bedroom all smiles and, as he came down the hallway past the kitchen and into the dining room, he said, “You won’t believe the dream I had last night!”

I asked, what it was about, and he said, “I can’t remember the details but it had something to do with a universe!”

Wow, speaking of affirmation! Remembering experiences like these makes the possibility of changing myself and the world for the better real. It’s all a matter of time, intention, intensity, and focus. If I keep the faith, the money will soon show up in my account as I imagine.

These experiences also give new meaning to the concept: Live by value fulfillment and practice idealism (determine the qualities of life and being you value most, your ideals, and actualize them to the best of your ability). We all know excellence when we see it and this is perhaps our greatest power. When we clarify who it is we want to be or what it is we want to do, we build a bridge from here to there. Once we build a bridge, all we have to do is cross it to get from here to there.
